Light Up Black and African Heritage

Light Up Black and African Heritage Calderdale (LightupBahc) was founded in 2019. The purpose for the centre was based on a survey of Africans living across Calderdale which revealed that Africans living in the area would welcome a centre where they would be able to meet socially and participate in promoting African culture in the community. Since then, with the support of many organisations and a lot of hard work, the organisation has gone from strength to strength, catering for people across Calderdale.

"LightUpBahc provides information, advice and support to individuals who face disadvantages, are unemployed or under employed, are on low income, have no skills or low skills, suffer from lack of confidence, face social isolation or exclusion or suffer from mental health issues. Beneficiaries of our services are people of African descent, Black & Minority Ethnic communities, and members of the general public. This include Families with Children and young people who are Not in Employment, Education or Training, people over 50 years old who are unemployed, unemployed single parents, and refugees and asylum seekers. We aim to provide people with advice they need to resolve the problems they are facing. We provide free, independent, confidential and impartial advice to everyone and we value diversity and promote equality."
